Ups and Downs

Anne started chemotherapy late last week. She was brave and tough. It went really well, and we know that Anne is in the right place. They took great care of her.

Anne’s first weekend recovering from chemotherapy wasn’t too bad. She slept a lot and had a good bit of nausea. She had a great attitude as she worked through the nausea. She had some visitors, and that made things a little sweeter. Cassie came home from college for the weekend and took her out on Monday. That really brightened her spirits. Friends and Family really do make all the difference.

We had an unexpected trip to the Emergency Room yesterday with a complication from chemotherapy. Anne’s blood counts are good, but her issue is still not resolved. She is on a medication that we hope will help. We have a clinic visit tomorrow and we hope to have some more answers at that time.

Our big news today is that our issue with insurance finally seems to be resolving. They have been radio silent for the past week, but saying that the hospital is out of Network for their “specialty pharmacy”. They have not returned phone calls or worked with us or the financial navigator at the hospital. Today the case manager called us and said that the drug that is considered “out of network” would be allowed to be given to Anne at the children’s center and that they would allow her to continue to receive all of her care at the children’s center. This has been weighing very heavily on us for the past week, so we are glad to be able to just focus on Anne and her care.

Anne gets chemo every other week, so her next treatment is late next week. We appreciate all of your prayers, thoughts and good vibes. Those of you who pray can pray that Anne’s new medicine will work and she can stay out of the ER. You can also pray that the final details with insurance get ironed out smoothly. You can also pray for Clark who has a wrestling tournament this weekend and has felt a lot of emotional turmoil at home this past week without a lot of support.

  1. Thankful that the insurance seems to be headed in the right direction. We’ll continue to pray that everything falls into place and that the both the chemo and the new med will be effective for Anne. We love you all! Good luck this weekend, Clark!

  2. I had no idea about this! Thanks for sharing and will be praying for all of you! How are the medical finances in this difficulty?

    1. Thank you for praying. The bills haven’t really started coming in yet. Right now it seems like insurance is covering most things. We still have a couple of issues to be ironed out with insurance on one of her chemo drugs, but we made some progress with that on Friday. Thank you for asking.

  3. Praying that the new medicine will work for Anne and that everything with the insurance and pharmacies can be worked out. Also praying for Clark as he navigates this journey too – hope he did great in his tournament!! Thanks so much for these updates, holding your family close to my heart.
